Michael Kaplan, M.D.


Dr. Michael Kaplan has been interested in the thyroid and its diseases since 1969, when he did his first thyroid research.  He is board certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Fellow of the American College of Endocrinologists.  He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he also received his endocrinology fellowship training.  He was on the faculties of Harvard Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine before moving to Michigan in 1988, to start full time clinical practice, specializing in thyroid diseases.  He also sees patients for parathyroid disorders and other related calcium problems.

Dr. Kaplan has published more than 120 medical articles about thyroid conditions and edited four collections of articles about thyroid problems.  He has received the Van Meter Award of the American Thyroid Association for outstanding contributions to the understanding of the thyroid gland and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists’ Outstanding Clinical Endocrinologist Award.  He has particular interests in thyroid cancer and nuclear medicine as applied to thyroid conditions.
